Mardy 2 Newport Corinthians 1
MARDY got their Gwent County Division One campaign off to the best possible start with a comfortable win over Newport Corinthians.
A Phillips Melville strike and Will Hughes penalty eased Mardy to victory on the opening day of the season setting what manager Gavin Butler will hope is the bench mark for another successful campaign.
Butler's men have a tough couple of games ahead if them over the next seven days starting with Garnlydan this Saturday at home kick off 3pm.
They follow that game up with a mouth-watering match against Division One new boys Blaenavon Blues on Wednesday evening, kick off 6.15pm.
The second team, coached by Peter Banfield and Nigel Casson kick of their Gwent Central campaign next Thursday at home to Crickhowell, while the newly formed third team, under the guidance of Phillip Morris, will face Crickhowell B the night before.
Training for all sides takes place every Tuesday and Tursday at 6.30pm at the Mardy Playing Fields.
