Thursdays show good form

New Inn 1 Abergavenny Thursdays 1

THURSDAYS opened their Gwent County Division Three campaign with a draw against New Inn.

The new look Pen-y-Pound side dominated their opponents up front with a display of football that promises a very bright season.

Former Mardy and Govilon midfielder Anthony Ellaway gave them the lead after only 20 minutes with a brilliantly taken goal, but Inn hit back before the break.

Thursdays player-coach Kyle Holmes said he was pleased with the result and confident they could beat Caldicot Town tonight.

"It's difficult at New Inn on a small pitch. The main thing was to get a result and not come away on the wrong end of a drubbing. In the end we had most of the chances and should have won it, but I'm more than happy to open the season with a draw."

Speaking on tonight's home game against Caldicot Castle the former Hereford Town player added: "We're looking to win our home games. Castle are a good little side, but with our experience and pace we should be able to beat them."

Tonight's match kicks off at 6.30pm at the Pen-y-Pound Stadium. This Saturday Thursdays travel to tough valley side Trethomas, kick off 3pm.

"That'll be a very tough game, but we'll do our best," said second team manager Brian Jones.
