Good week for Goytre

Welsh League Division Three Chepstow Town 1 Goytre 1 Goytre 3 Penrhiwfer 1

GOYTRE will be without the suspended Simon Bailey, Andy Walsh and Mark Langford for tonight's game at Plough Road against Caerau Ely.

Bailey was sent off in last week's draw at Chepstow after a tussle with Town centre half Jason Price and his absence does leave a hole in the side.

Club chairman Paul Greenhalgh remains confident they can pick up something from the game after a satisfactory start to the season seeing them bag four points from a possible nine.

"We've got off to an OK start this season and everyone is relatively happy. This season is going to be tougher than last because there have been some good clubs promoted. It's all makes for a very entertaining campaign and one we will relish," he said.

Goytre did well to come back from a 1-0 deficit against Chepstow Town thanks to Mike Dixon's brave shot on goal. He pounced on the ball after Mark Langford's shot had been parried away by the keeper.

The defensive trio of Dean Taylor, Darren Haines and Richie Taylor backed-up by the ever impressive Richie Minor in goal did a superb job of fending off former Goytre striker Craig Joliffe - now with Chepstow.

On a high after that gutsy draw Goytre looked even more impressive against Welsh League newcomers Penrhiwfer winning 3-1 thanks to an own goal and Steve Collett brace - one of his efforts being a rocket-like 30-yard free kick which fired its way into the corner of the net. Collett smashed home 19 goals last term and is well on his way to matching that tally this term.

"It was a good win and one that we can build some momentum on," said Greenhalgh of the Penrhiwfer result.

Tonight's match at Plough Road against Caerau Ely kicks off at 6.30pm. On Saturday Goytre are home again this time to Ystradgynlais, kick off 3pm.
