Flash flood hits Chepstow

TRADERS and shoppers took emergency cover on Monday as a flash flood hit Chepstow' shopping area.

As our photo shows, torrents of water cascaded down the pedestrianised part of St Mary Street where the Free Press office is.

Reporter Jacqui Carrol said she was worried that the office was going to be flooded out.

Heavy refuse bags full of rubbish were hurled down the street as the rain storm took hold but it is thought that no damage was caused.

Paul Ritchins, president of the town's Chamber of Commerce, said: "I understand some traders experienced some flooding but nothing serious. A customer told me that he hadn't seem anything like this in 20 years living in Chepstow."
