Monmouthshire students excel again

Following on from the "excellent" A-level results the week before, Monmouthshire Council says it was pleased to announce more good news for pupils, with the release last week of the GCSE results.

Pupils at the top end of the ability range continue to show marked improvement.

Last year 17% scored A* and A, while this year 19.9% achieved these excellent standards. (Welsh average 17.6%).

Pupils receiving the top four grades (A* - C) went up from 56.9% last year to 59.3% (Welsh average 60.7%).

Similarly the rate for all grades has risen from 96.5% to 96.9% (Welsh average 97.8%).

Cabinet member Cllr Peter Fox said: "These results reflect the joint working between the LEA and schools in the all important area of teaching and learning.

"We will continue to work together to improve even further. My congratulations go to all pupils and staff who have done so well."
