Goytre are quick on the draw!

AFC Goytre are becoming the score draw specialists of Welsh League Division Three, much to the frustration of club chairman Paul Greenhalgh.

Two draws in the past week means the club has drawn three of its opening five games and Greenhalgh says the team needs to convert more of its chances.

Goytre drew 2-2 at home with Caerau Ely last Tuesday night and followed that up with a 1-1 draw against Ystradglynais on Saturday.

The home side started well against Caerau Ely when, following good work by Andy Walsh, Mike Dixon put them in front but they committed the cardinal sin of letting in an equaliser just before the break.

Goytre were then put under pressure in the second period and deferender Dean Taylor, Darren Haines and Richie Taylor, supported by keeper Richie Minor, did a good job to keep the scores level.

However after about 60 minutes, Minor produced an unlikely error to allow the away side to take the lead.

Goytre pressed forward for an equaliser and were rewarded when Steve Collett fed Andy Walsh.

"The lads performed well against a good side," said Greenhalgh. "We were happy to get a point from this game."

But the same couldn't be said on Saturday's draw with Ystradglynais which was described by the chairman as "the worst performance of the season so far".

Goytre missed the cutting edge of Andy Walsh up front but the team took control early in the game and Mark Langford slotted home a penalty.

However, the team disappointed from then on and allowed the Division 3 new boys to equalise.

"We never really got going. It was not pretty watch and we need to improve on that performance," added Greenhalgh.

On Saturday, AFC Goytre entertain Albion Rovers in the first round of the Welsh Trophy.
