ABERGAVENNY RFC kick off their Division Three East campaign on Saturday against Cwmbran at Bailey Park.
With new coach Gary Lawrence in place, and an encouraging pre-season behind them, Aber are confident of improving on their league position of last season.
For Gary, it is the second coaching job he's had at Bailey Park having previously been assistant coach a few years ago.
Joining him in the coaching set-up is forwards coach Andrew Sutton while Richard Dixon, a former player, is team manager.
Skipper for the season is prop Howard Davies and he leads a promising squad which includes a number of young players.
Club chairman Mike Aylett told the Free Press: "I'm really excited about the new season both on and off the field. I think we have a good squad and we are certainly aiming at a top half finish in the league."
He added that he hoped new changing rooms at the clubhouse would be ready in a few weeks time.
Abergavenny rounded off their pre-season with a victory over Usk in a trial match on Saturday.
Saturday's match against Cwmbran kicks off at 2.30pm.
