Injury rules out Chepstow RFC skipper

CHEPSTOW Rugby Club kick off their Division Four East campaign on Saturday at home against Crumlin.

Pre-season training has been spasmodic and the team will start the new season without club captain Andrew Morris and last year's skipper Darren Deeley.

Morris hopes to make a return in October once he has recovered from his ligament injury while Deeley is out for three weeks with a broken foot.

However there is still an air of optimism among the players who are coached again by Phil Smith.

Chepstow have a good record against Crumlin who generally put out a big pack of forwards.

If the young Chepstow backs get their share of the ball, they could score a few tries.

Saturday's kick-off is at 2.30pm at Upton Memorial Ground with players meeting at 1.15pm.

Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30-8.30pm.

A 10-a-side rugby tournament was held on Sunday and the Jonathan Preece Shield was won by the Zooport Clarts who beat the Pink Panthers in the final of the six-team competition.
