The visionaries behind it are Peter Mills, a well-known entrepreneur and sportsman, and his wife Susie, a former buyer for Harrods.

The couple have created a store that has re-defined the boundaries of interior-design shopping with an added stroke of perfection, selling designer specials, one-off pieces, standard lines and end-of-range products at amazingly low prices. And it's all pure quality.

"Because of the quantities we buy, we obtain huge discounts from the manufacturers which we pass on to our customers, and because we sell straight from the floor, the stock is ever changing... we sell beautiful furniture - only cheaper," explained Susie.

Being based in this historic building near the town's riverside, means they can not only sell products directly from the shop floor, but also offer an efficient twice-weekly delivery service.

"No one has to wait for ages for their furniture, if they see something in the shop and they love it, they can have it immediately. They can take it with them if they want - we will help them load!"

The 20,000 sq ft store is full to bursting with lovely squashy leather suites, sumptuous big name upholstery, conservatory and unusual occasional furniture. They keep a huge stock of luxurious sprung edge divans, scrummy princess style metal beds and bedroom furniture, beautiful lamps, throws, scented candles, delightful pictures and paintings, cushions, a fabulous selection of accessories... this is truly a dream store.

Indeed, manager Diana Hallet, who interchanges with Susie, actually has her own customer base. And then there is Dawn Howells Ross, an interior designer who is particularly good with the store's accessories and will undertake commissions for customers' own paint effects.

Susie says they pride themselves on giving customers the satisfaction they deserve.

"The staff have been carefully picked because we like to give a very special service and try to offer things that no-one else does. The furniture we sell can be one-off items or samples and therefore unique," she says.

"The first time people come and visit they are surprised it is such a lovely store. We make friends with everyone, and our biggest joy is that 80 percent of our sales are now done on recommendation from customers who have already bought from us."
