Gwent County Division One Panteg 5 Trinant 1
PANTEG manager Paul Thomas says his side has to aim for a top six finish this season after Saturday's demolition job of Trinant.
And after a shaky start to the campaign Thomas sent a firm warning to the club's rivals saying his side is now firing on all cylinders and ready to build a winning run that will rocket them back-up the table.
"It's taken us a while to find our momentum and up until Saturday we really hadn't done that. Against Trinant though we finally looked as if we've discovered what I've known all along we had - the game to go beat sides and finish in the top six come the end of the season," said Thomas.
Panteg have taken seven out of possible nine points in their last three games and now lie ninth in the table with the same number of points as Abercarn United and Garnlydan who stand just above them.
Summer signing Dan Parfitt is proving to be one of the key players to this success. The centre half scored two goals against Trinant - both from headers - and could prove an invaluable weapon from set pieces for Panteg.
"He's a great player and gives us more options from things like corners and free kicks. He's a tall lad with great presence on the field," said Thomas.
Striker Lee Gwillian, a good friend of Parfitt's, also struck with a brace while assistant manager Adrian Aurelias (correct) chipped in with the other goal.
When David Gabbidon (Cardiff City's Danny Gabbidon's brother) returns from injury in around two weeks time its hard see just where Panteg will slip up in their quest for a top six finish.
Panteg kick off at home against RTB Ebbw Vale this Saturday at 3pm.
