HOLDERS Gilwern and District made it through to the second round of the P & P Pest Control Open Cup on Saturday in convincing style.
They saw off the challenge of second division Abergavenny Thursdays 5-0 with Adam Carrington scoring twice and the other goals coming from Matthew Williams, Graham Jones and Graham Rees.
The tie of the round saw division one leaders Crickhowell A taking on Blaenavon Blues.
The Blues went into half-time a goal up thanks to Ryan Keene but second half goals by Matthew Stevens and James Schofield put Crickhowell A through to the next round.
Sebastopol B were no match for first division Goytre as Goytre won 6-1 with goals from Stuart Price (2), Adam Roberts (2) and Chris Perry (2). Darren Wheatstone scored for Sebastopol B.
Pontypool Town A continued their recent good form with a 5-1 win over Crickhowell B to book their place in the next round. Pontypool Town A's goals came from Steve Bennett (2), Chris Parry (2) and Chris Oliver. Jonny Webb scored the Crickhowell B goal.
Llanarth were guaranteed a side in the second round as their A team faced their B team. The A side won 4-2 with goals from Matthew Small, Toby Preece, Peter Maddocks and Paul Rennie. The B team's goals were scored by Simon North and Colin Morgan.
Clydach Wasps visited the Ruffetts and knocked out Lower New Inn 4-3. Simon Tippings headed the Wasps into the lead but Lower New Inn equalised through Justin Arandjelovic. In the second half, Wasps went ahead again through Alan Elmore and then John Morgan and Barry Curtis made it 4-1.
Mike Ellis scored twice late on for Lower New Inn and Tim Lane missed a sitter as Clydach held on to win.
