Police hunt for joyriders

POLICE are looking for joyriders who crashed a stolen forklift truck into Pontypool Park on Friday.

Police were alerted that the truck had been stolen before 10pm. It was driven down Penygarn Hill and along Park Road before smashing through the Rosemary Lane gate.

The vehicle was found abandoned by police a short time later.

Park ranger Philip Grimes said: "I have seen the gate they went through, which is totally trashed, so we are going to have to get a new one.

"Thankfully it is only an ordinary gate and is not one of the ornamental ones that would have cost us thousands of pounds.

"They did cause some damage to the park itself, but nothing too serious."

Any witnesses to the incident or anyone who knows anything about the theft should contact Sergeant Pheasant on 01495 764 711.
