Injury-hit Forge win at Caerleon

FORGESIDE travelled to Caerleon for this league encounter with another depleted side through injury but showed character to come away with the spoils.

With a number of players out of position their strengths were in the forwards where they dominated the majority of the match which they won 13-8.

It took ten minutes for the first score when Forge were awarded a penalty, converted by scrum half Rhys Morgan.

Fifteen minutes later Forge scored a well-worked try from the lineout for flanker Darren Walters to touch down in the corner. Morgan excellently converted this from the touchline.

With Forge continually pressuring, the home side Morgan's drop goal attempt was sliced only for Caerleon's backs to gather and race 90 metres to score against the run of play on 35 minutes.

Forge were awarded another penalty five minutes later and went into the second half 13-5 to the good.

The second half was a stop start affair, after there was only one score produced for the remainder of the match, a penalty by Caerleon.

This seemed the only way they were going to score as Forge dominated the half but could not convert pressure into points.

There were some brief spells when Caerleon threatened the visitors' line but the defence by Forge was excellent.

Another outstanding performance by flanker Neil Lloyd earned him man-of-the-match.

Other noticeable performances were by scrum half Rhys Morgan and hooker and skipper Jon Walby.
