A fine start

ABERSYCHAN RFC flew out of the blocks against St Joseph's and young wing Jamie Nicholls scored a try within the first minute in Saturday's 18-7 victory.

The opposition rallied back and scored a converted try of their own in which Abersychan flanker G Baldwin suffered an horrific gash to his leg.

After a lengthy delay, the Abersychan pack rallied round and, after pinching a lineout, Jamie Nicholls scored in the corner.

Then Steve Richards secured good ball and, with some fine support work from Brendon Burns, Chris Pearce and Jason Perkins, Abersychan were rewarded with a simple penalty, which captain Dai Oram slotted over.

In the second half, a break out from defence by Dean Jones, Darren Brock and veteran flanker Steve Lewis resulted in Nicholls barging his way over for his hat-trick try.

This week Abersychan play West Mon OB away (2.30pm).

Abersychan would like to congratulate captain Dai Oram and Joanne on the birth of their first baby, Jake.
