Mother left 'numb' by death

A TALYWAIN man has died aged 39 after suffering from a series of illnesses, including the superbug MRSA.

Kevin Harris is thought to have caught the virus before being admitted to hospital with a brain haemorrhage.

He had collapsed whilst on holiday on West Wales and was admitted to Morriston Hospital in Swansea two days later.

When he arrived at hospital he was able to recognise and talk to his brother.

Just five days later he was dead.

His mother Anne Harris, 59, of Gordon Road said: "He was a happy-go-lucky, fun-loving boy. You think it is all a dream and then you wake up from it. I just feel numb."

The causes of death were listed as severe infection, brain haemorrhage, meningitis and multiple cerebral aneurysms.

Mrs Harris said: "On the Tuesday (following the haemorrhage) it looked better and they said they were going to take him off life support but they didn't."

The family were told that Mr Harris' was already a carrier and the bug was found in his nose and at the back of his throat. MRSA though often associated with hospital wards also occurs in one in three people.

Kevin's brother Mark Harris said: "On the Wednesday he took a turn for the worse, and after they said he had MRSA he went downhill fast."

Local hospitals now screen patients for MRSA on admission.

Mr Harris was buried at Panteg Cemetry last Thursday.
