Skenfrith to complain at lack of games

SKENFRITH United could make a formal complaint to the Herefordshire Football League after the club were forced to spend another weekend on the sidelines.

The team is scheduled to play away at Homelacy on Saturday in Division Two and it will be their first league match for weeks.

With the season already into October, Skenfrith have played just one league match so far and club officials say they are "totally frustrated" by the lack of on-field action.

And the situation could get even worse as Skenfrith could be forced to sit out another Saturday on October 23 due to a referee shortage in the league.

Club secretary Nick Oxford, who plays left-back for the team, said: "We are considering putting in a formal complain to the league over the October 23 game.

"Because of a shortage of referees, we are scheduled to miss out again, but that would really be ridiculous. I've almost forgotten what it's like to play a competitive match!"

For Saturday, Skenfrith hope to welcome Steve Phipps and keeper Ian Jenkins back from injury and Oxford believes manager Paul Brown should have a full squad to pick from.

"All the players are just desperate to play and hopefully that will show with a good performance against local rivals Homelacy who were relegated from the division above us last season," Oxford added.
