SUDBROOK Cricket Club A's impressive start to the East Gwent League Division One season continued on Saturday against Undy Athletic A. They made it six out of six wins with a 4-0 victory.
Russell Griffiths again controlled the midfield area and rewarded his manager Gary Vaughan with a well-taken brace of goals. Richard Lund and Jason Thorn were their other scorers.
Rockfield Rovers turned in an impressive display against Tintern Abbey to beat them 5-3. Daniel Macdonald showed he was in a different class to the Tintern defence by grabbing a hat-trick, and Lee Pszczola chipped in with two more.
Tintern replied with goals from Merv Andrews, Wayne Duffield and Gareth Moore.
Portskewett & Sudbrook A finally look as if they are turning their season around as they beat Chepstow Town 5-1. Bryan James, Gareth James, Mike Whistance, Danny Mullen and Barrie Ireland were the Portskewett scorers.
In Division Two, Sudbrook Cricket Club B are following in the footsteps of their A side.
They went top of the table after defeating Undy Athletic B 4-1, with former Undy man Neil Richards scoring twice for Sudbrook. Mark Cochrane and Ken Nurdin added the other Sudbrook goals, and Undy's reply came from Mark Duffield.
Thornwell Burnt Barn finally ended Monmouth Town A's unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 home win. Kenny Vidler's goal and a Mark Pope penalty proved to be the decisive factors in this hard fought encounter. Caldicot Castle A bounced back from last week's defeat to beat Portskewett & Sudbrook B 8-3. Richard Beech (3), Simon Wally (2), Anthony Robbins, Lee Harris and veteran Dale Kedward were the Castle scorers.
Underwood B won 3-1 at struggling Chepstow Athletic. Goals for Underwood were scored by Matthew Seabourne, Lee Ryder and Ashley Edinborough, while Jamie Goddard netted for Chepstow Athletic.
In Division Three, Tippling Wanderers took full advantage of Thornwell Burnt Barn C not playing. Goal machine Gareth Huntley was the toast of the Tippling when he grabbed all six of his side's goals in their 6-1 thrashing of Monmouth Town B. Craig Lewis scored Monmouth's consolation.
Bulwark defeated injury-plagued Mathern Wanderers 3-2 in the Chepstow derby. Paul Jones, Chris Hooper and Nigel Johnston scored for the Black and Whites. Mathern's goals came from Lee Kelly and Steve Taylor.
