MONMOUTH Town recorded their eighth win of the season on Saturday to cement their place at the top of Gwent County Division Three.
Their free-scoring approach saw them net another five goals in a 5-1 away win at PILCS.
Aaron Davies got Monmouth off to a flyer on Saturday, scoring after just two minutes. Despite dominating the play, Monmouth keeper Robin Pick was forced into two good saves before second half goals by Andrew Rogers (2), Matthew Bowen and an Andrew Smith penalty took the game away from PILCS.
Town have now scored a total of 48 goals in just ten games, making them the highest scoring team in any of the Gwent County divisions.
Even more impressive is that they have only let 12 goals in so far this season, a feat bettered only by Clydach Wasps in Division One and Abertillery Bluebirds in Division Two.
Manager Andrew Smith said he was pleased with the way his side had responded following their disappointing draw with Thornwell Burnt Barn the previous Saturday.
"Because we seem to beat most sides with ease, I think some players started to believe they only needed to turn up to win so the Thornwell result gave us a timely kick up the backside.
"Against PILCS, the workrate was back and we put in a good overall performance to continue our unbeaten start to the season."
The only side hanging on to Monmouth at the top is Rogerstone who are two points behind after their win against New Inn on Saturday. Caldicot Castle lie third but they are a massive eight points behind Monmouth.
Manager Andrew Smith has set his side the ambitious target of going unbeaten for the whole season and he will be confident his team can continue their winning ways when they face FC Dugout in their next league game.
With Wales playing England in the World Cup qualifier on Saturday, Monmouth have a weekend off but they will be looking for more goals against FC Dugout, Division Three's basement club who have already let in 37 goals this season.
