Fight to the finish

Pontypool Town A 4 Mardy 3

This was a rollercoaster of a game with the result in doubt until the final whistle but this win for Ponty sees them climb to seventh in the table.

For a change Ponty started the better of the two sides and it wasn't long before Andy Pollard fired home after Jason Stokes did all the hard work to set him up.

Against run of play Mardy scored twice and Ponty were behind at the interval.

The wet conditions were giving the goalkeepers nightmares as the ball skidded around but Ponty keeper Wayne Ottley changed his gloves and the problem was solved.

All of a sudden Ponty upped the tempo and with a long throw from Stuart Price, Andy Pollard's header brought the scores level, then it was Gavin Hopkins who went on a solo run and with everyone expecting him to cross instead he shot from outside the box and the ball flew into the back of the net.

However to Mardy's credit they never gave up and fought back to level 3-3. The clock was running down and both sides were desperate not to lose but Ponty sub Paul Sutcliffe had other ideas and he let fly from outside the box . His strike was also in the back of the net, without the keeper moving.

Ponty manager John Quigley was full of praise for his side who had battled for the full 90 minutes and are now only four points behind the team second in the league.

Chris Parry and Stuart Price played well for Ponty but man of the match was Andy Pollard for his two goals and overall performance.
