Jamie volleys in Govilon winner

In Division One Govilon beat Lower New Inn 1-0 with a goal scored by Jamie Wilkins after two minutes. Govilon had a corner from the top left which Scott Wall floated into the box.

The ball was headed out by Dave Redwood to outside of the penalty area where it fell to Jamie Wilkins who thundered a 20-yard volley into the Lowers goal which gave Lowers keeper Allan Samson no chance with a crowded goal area. The elements did not ease off at all and both the Govilon keeper Tom Holland and the Lowers keeper Allan Samson were excellent in handling the very wet ball. It is ironic that the Govilon pitch did not meet the criteria for Govilon to continue playing in the Gwent County FA league, but the Govilon slope provided the only game of football to be played in the league. This win moves Govilon up the Division One table from ninth position to fifth. man of the match for Govilon was Jamie Wilkins. Man of the match for Lower New Inn was Mike Ellis. The match was expertly refereed by John Priest.

The Torfaen Recreation and Leisure Department declared their pitches unfit for play at midday on Friday, but although the league secretary fully co-operated with that department on football matters, they just won't inform the league of their call off decisions which results in a lot of unnecessary work for the League Secretary. All the home clubs do not get news of their decision, so games do go ahead but always are subject of league rules and pitch inspections by Official Referees.
