Fireworks cause havoc

FOUR post boxes have been blown apart in the Pontypool area after fireworks exploded inside them.

As the annual orgy of fireworks abuse gets into full swing, police are once more being called out to numerous incidents.

Four post boxes, two in Trevethin, one in the Tranch and one in Nicholas Street, were destroyed.

On Blaendare Road, a firework was lit under a car in what police believe was an attempt to blow it up.

A fire in Kwik Save was caused when a window was smashed and a firework pushed through it.

Youths have been reported firing rockets at moving cars.

PC Andy Cleaton said: "We've had many reports of kids letting fireworks off in the street and even aiming rockets at cars. It's highly dangerous and ties up police who could be concentrating on other matters.

Fireworks abuse is high on our agenda this year. I would ask anyone with any information about the above incidents to get in touch with us."
