Forgeside win local derby

Forgeside 26 Cwmbran 18

Forgeside travelled to Cwmbran and made amends for their poor performance against Girlings a few weeks ago.

This was a bruising encounter and although Forge were 8-0 down within the first five minutes they showed character to come back and dominate most of the game.

They were rewarded for their efforts by scoring two excellent tries by flanker Neil Lloyd and centre Dale Hughes, both converted by scrum half Rhys Morgan.

In the second half Forge were pinned in their opponents 22 for long periods with the hosts defending resolutely and the defence paid dividends when their winger gathered a loose pass by the Forge backs and raced 90 metres to score under the posts.

Forge responded immediately from the kick off and pressurised Cwmbran for the remainder of the game and scored two further tries by hooker Leighton Williams and number eight John Howells.

Forge were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes, Morgan converting. This was only the second game played by forge in the last six weeks and the performance justified the result and the players efforts should be applauded.
