Homes plan get under way

WORK on a new 42-home development in Talywain is underway.

Local firm Piercefield Developments Ltd have begun building work on the site at Fairfield and plans are set to include six bungalows and four houses for rent and another 32 houses.

Executive Member for Housing Councillor Gwyneira Clark was on site to see work begin and was on hand to cut the first turf.

She said: "I am pleased it is underway. It goes a long way towards solving the housing problems we have in Torfaen. There have been some amendments to the plans and residents have expressed some concerns, one of which is surrounding the proposed play area."

Piercefield Developments are working alongside charitable group Eastern Valley Housing to complete the development. The properties owned by Eastern Valley are to offer accommodation under a registered social landlord.

The site is to offer 25 three bedroom semi-detached, eight two bedroom semis, six two bedroom bungalows and three detached houses with four bedrooms.

The developers are hoping to make the houses available to buy or rent by December 2005.

Plans for the site were passed by Torfaen planners and were intended to provide much needed housing.

Developments are also planned for South Sebastopol where 1,200 homes are to be built, and the former Avesta steelworks site in Griffithstown, where 149 houses are to be built.

People interested in buying one of the properties can call Piercefield on 01633 862111.
