Goytre into third round of cup

Welsh League Shamrock Travel Insurance Cup Round Two Goytre 2 Cwmamon 1

WELSH League side Goytre booked their place in the third round of the Shamrock Travel Insurance Cup with a professional 2-1 win over Cwmamon on Saturday.

And now chairman Paul Greenhalgh is hoping they can take their cup form into the league where Goytre's campaign has continued to stutter along.

Ian Rosser gave Goytre the lead but Cwmamon hit back within seconds of the kick off after Dean Taylor was adjudged to have fouled their striker in the box.

Despite losing the lead so quickly Goytre's heads didn't drop. Instead they pushed hard through their full backs Darren Haines and Richie Taylor and regained the lead when Haines latched onto an inch perfect Stuart Price cross.

This Saturday Goytre get back to Welsh League Division Three action away to Blaen Rhondda.

"They've only won three games and are below us, so hopefully we will come away with something. As long as we do not lose we will continue to push forward. If we can take our cup form into the league we will do well. The main thing is we keep picking up points with every game," said Greenhalgh.

The match kicks off at 2.15pm.
