Cwmbran Hockey into the last eight

CWMBRAN Hockey Club booked a place in the quarter finals of the Welsh Cup and a plum home tie against Rhyl thanks to a stunning 7-0 win at home to Aberystwyth University.

Paul Rees led the scoring with a four-goal burst, the final goal coming from the narrowest of angles.

Goalkeeper Chris Silvester was only called upon to make one save - a spectacular looking diving to his left - in the one-sided game.

Cwmbran midfielder Matthew Judd dominated the midfield tussle against his former university and managed a goal of his own in the second half. Matthew Stollery also scored, after Rees had drawn the goalkeeper.

The draw for the second round took place at the Six in Hand pub, Croesyceiliog following the game.

Cwmbran will be at home to Rhyl, Swansea play Swansea University, Cardiff University host Whitchurch and holders Cardiff will host Wrexham in the other quarter finals.

In the Gerrard League, Cwmbran ran out 4-1 winners in the Gwent derby with Chepstow.

The Crows fell behind to a first-half penalty flick, but found the scoring touch after the break to net four times.

Cwmbran A travelled to Pembrokeshire for the dullest 0-0 game in memory. Appalling weather conditions helped produce a game of little incident.
