GOYTRE claimed all three points in their Welsh League Division Three clash with Llantwit Fardre on Saturday.
A fine display for 70 minutes saw the home side coasting at 2-0 but a slack last 20 minutes allowed the opposition back into the game and Goytre were relieved to win the game 2-1.
All the goals came in the second half but both sides had chances to break the deadlock early on.
For Goytre, Mark Langford and Lee Grimes were both denied while the home team's goalkeeper Gareth Williams also had to make good saves to keep out the visitors.
Steve Collett finally scored the opener ten minutes into the second half when he started and finished a flowing move that also included good work by Simon Bailey and Will Bratt.
Goytre were now playing with confidence and centre half Kevin Wallace doubled their advantage.
Club chairman Paul Greenhalgh told the Free Press: "We were 2-0 and coasting but with 20 minutes left we took our eye off the ball and let them back in."
Llantwit Fardre pulled a goal back when Goytre keeper Williams fumbled a corner and they then made two attacking substitutions to try to get the equaliser.
Greenhalgh said: "They pushed forward but only created half chances so we were able to hold them out. Generally, I was delighted with the performance but the boys have to learn to keep playing for the full 90 minutes."
On Saturday, Goytre face another tough game when they travel to Albion Rovers.
