It's a long time coming but Garn bag their first win

GARNDIFFAITH RFC claimed their fifth win of the season in Division Five East on Saturday when they beat Caldicot 18-7.

Garn started the game well and put pressure on the away side but with the wrong options and indecisiveness their only rewards in the first half were two penalties from outside half Craig Sulway.

From the restart came the try of the afternoon when from their own 25, Garndiffaith strung some good phases of attacking play involving forwards and backs ending in centre Ben Smith offloading to supporting outside half Sulway to go over unopposed. He also kicked the extras.

After a passage of evenly matched play by both sets of forwards, second row Matthew Billings collected from a line-out in his own 25 to set off on one of his galloping runs with support from tireless flanker Christopher Baldwin.

He took play up to the visitors' line only for them to infringe resulting in flanker Baldwin going over from the resulting penalty.

From the restart, the away side enjoyed a ten-minute period of pressure on the Garn line which resulted in Baldwin being shown a yellow card.

The resulting penalty was taken quickly and Caldicot centre Alan Williams scored a try.

The home side seemed to make themselves work hard for this victory, but they stuck to the task and ground out a well deserved win over well- drilled opposition.
