FORGESIDE came out on top in Saturday's local derby as they beat Abersychan 14-10.
Forge took the initiative from the kick-off and put pressure on Abersychan for the first 15 minutes. They were awarded two penalties but failed to convert them. Scrum-half Rhys Morgan did put the home side ahead when he slotted over a third attempt.
Abersychan responded but some excellent defence frustrated the away side and they only came away with a penalty to make the half-time score 3-3.
Forge started the second period strongly when replacement flanker Mark Read spun the ball out wide for full-back Jamie Hill to crash over for a try in the corner.
This was cancelled out soon after when a slick Abersychan move resulted in a converted try.
Forge responded well and spent the rest of the match in the opponent's 22. This led to two further penalties which were both converted by Morgan to seal the victory.
Forge travel to Whiteheads on Saturday for another league encounter.
