A KITCHEN and bathroom fitter said he is "devastated" after thieves smashed their way into his vans and stole £2,000 worth of tools and equipment.
Simon Weaver's business, in which he is self-employed, with one employee, was brought to a standstill this week in the busy run-up to Christmas, after his vans were broken into outside his house in Croesyceil-iog, Cwmbran.
Worse still, the father of two said he was unable to insure the equipment because he has to keep it in his van as he has no space in his home. It was stolen last week.
"It was devastating - you had to see it to believe it. I need the tools for my livelihood, and now I'll have to find a way of replacing them all," said Mr Weaver, 41, who also works as a coach at Torfaen Warriors Boxing Club. He added: "They didn't stop there, they took a stereo and CD player. It's frustrating, because it's the second time this has happened in the last three years.
"They smashed their way through a window on each van. it has set me back - I was due to start a new job today."
The thieves took specialised tiling equipment, such as cutters and routers, along with tiles. Mr Weaver is hoping an appeal will help police to make an arrest or recover the tools.
Sergeant Becky Taylor, of Cwmbran police, said: "Police would welcome any information in connection to this or any other vehicle-related crime in Cwmbran.
"We would also appeal to people to do what they can to make sure there is nothing of any value in their vehicle.
"If you have a stereo or any other valuables and it is feasible to remove it, then try to remember to do so."
If you can help, call Cwmbran police on 01633 838111, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
