Car smashes into bookies

ALL BETS are off at Pontnewydd Ladbrokes, after a car smashed through the shop's front window and put a temporary stop to service.

Police found the Rover 214 abandoned in the shop and said the vehicle had careered through the glass before ending up on the shop floor.

The damage to the shop and the car were found at around 3.40am by Cwmbran police. There was no sign of a driver and police said £23,000 was missing.

A spokesman for Ladbrokes said: "A member of the property services team has been to the shop to assess the damage and make the property safe. As you can imagine there was a huge mess in the shop and we will not be open until it is safe enough to do so."

The damage caused to the shop is likely to run into thousands.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and Cwmbran Crime and Disorder Reduction officer PC Darryl Dewar said: "The driver of the vehicle has been traced, interviewed and reported for motoring offences. The vehicle was not stolen."

Cwmbran police asked for anyone who saw anything to come forward. Anyone with information should call on 01633 642054.
