Cross Keys 32 Pontypool 21
Pontypool defensive coach Kevin Weaver was left ruing his side's lack of finishing ability as Pooler's relegation fight suffered a setback at Cross Keys.
And the Pontypool park number two has warned his players new faces are ready to come in if the current squad continue to under-perform.
The Gwent club now faces a tough trip to Carmathern Quins and a relegation six-pointer against Newbridge over the Christmas period. Those games come after the unwanted distraction of a cup match at home to Kidwelly this Saturday.
Weaver said: "Saturday was very much the day after the lord mayor's show.
"It was very frustrating because we spent most of the match in their 22 and if you look at the stats we won more lineouts and scrums than them.
"But we lacked leadership, people were waiting for someone else to take it on. And we lacked experience. Every time they kicked to us, we conceded a penalty.
"We just need to be far more clinical and pick the right option," he added. Weaver would not be drawn on who might be coming in to bolster the Pooler squad but said there may be several new additions soon.
"Hopefully we'll have one or two new signings by the next game. We need some halfbacks and an old head in second row, he said.
"We're lacking direction without a shadow of a doubt. On Saturday we were defensively naive.
However despite his negative assessment of Saturdays match Weaver sent out a rallying call to Pooler fans.
"We will get out of this. We'll persevere, roll our sleeves up and work hard again this week.
"We've got to do it for the fans, to pay them back, every time we go away there's more of them than there are home fans," he said.
