Crows in control

Cwmbran 7 v Pontypool United 6

THE game only had one try - but it was some try. Wing Gavin Cox won the game in a flash of brilliance.

He received the ball 60 metres out on the touchline and with no space at all, he cut outside and then inside two would-be tackles before sprinting away towards the try line. James Didcote converted.

Leading 7-0 the Crows, playing down the slope, conceded a penalty which visiting player/coach Chris James kicked to close the first half scoring.

Both packs evenly contested the scrums with Chris Barnes for Cwmbran and Mark Parry for United winning the lion's share of the lineouts. United closed the gap to a point with another James penalty. Tremendous tackling by the home defence kept the visitors at bay.
