Goytre FC 2 Chepstow 3
Chepstow recovered from a goal down at half time to turn the tables on Goytre and take all three points in an engrossing Welsh Third Division Match.
Nicky Vassello was the hero for Chepstow, twice putting his side back on level terms after a physical Goytre outfit had threatened to out muscle their visitors.
Goytre took the lead after 15 minutes, a long clearance found a Goytre striker who made no mistake slotting past the Chepstow keeper.
Chepstow thought there was more than a hint of offside about the goal but their protests were waved away much to their annoyance.
They were level ten minutes later though. A fine in-swinging corner was met by Vassello who rose well, heading home to equalise.
But Chepstow were dealt a blow just before half-time and went in for the break 2-1 down.
The visitors failed to properly clear a Goytre corner and during the ensuing scramble the ball was forced into the Chepstow net.
A half-time dressing down seemed to have riled Chepstow as the visitors stamped their authority on the game in the second period.
Nicky Vassello got his second after good work from Chris Rogers and Matty Owen before Miles Griffiths struck the winner 15 minutes from time though the ball seemed to take a deflection on its route to goal.
Assistant manager Barry Vassello was clearly delighted with the result. "We stopped the rot with a point last week but it's nice to get back to winning ways," he said.
"They were a physical side who tried to intimidate us but I thought we thoroughly deserved our victory."
Chepstow now face Pentwyn Dynamos away in their next league game but hope to arrange a friendly before that fixture.
