Blues battle for win

Mardy 0 Blaenavon Blues 3

Blues took maximum points from this crucial fixture against a very determined Mardy side.

After a competitive first quarter of an hour Blues took the lead, Steve White played a quick free kick to Matthew Shearman who was pulled down in the box. White made no mistake with the resultant spot kick.

Mardy came back at the Blues and Leon Gilchrist shot across the face of the Blues goal.

A great turn by Darran Harris made a chance for Mike Waite but the Mardy defenders managed to crowd him out.

With half time approaching Phillip Melville narrowly shot wide and at the interval the game was very evenly balanced.

Five minutes into the second half and Blues scored the all important second goal. Shearman and White combined to put Harris in on goal, Harris' shot was pushed away by Mardy keeper Indge but Neil Cox was on hand to head the ball home.

The Blues took control of the game for long periods but Mardy never gave up the fight and nearly pulled a goal back when they hit the bar from a free kick.

And one minute later a great effort from Wyn Evans sailed narrowly wide. Blues settled the game in the 85 minute, Waite's cleverly lobbed pass saw Harris and the Mardy keeper Indge collide and White poached his second goal of the game.
