Crickhowell stay nine clear

CRICKHOWELL go into the Christmas break with a nine-point lead at the top of Gwent Central League Division One.

They continued their winning run with a 5-2 away victory at Usk Town with Matthew Stevens, James Webb, Owain Jones, Craig Bennett and an own goal getting the goals. For Usk, the prolific Danial Bevan netted and Michael Ives also got on the scoresheet.

Crickhowell's man of the match was goalkeeper Alwyn Morgan while Marc Shuckman was Usk's star man.

Second-placed Govilon stayed in contention at the top after a narrow 1-0 victory over Lower New Inn. Dean Morgan scored the only goal with a deflected shot. Govilon MoM: Andrew Spiers. Lower New Inn MoM: Mike Ellis.

Goytre produced a second-half comeback to beat Pontypool Town 6-2.

Pontypool went into half-time 2-1 up but had no answer to Goytre's second-half performance. Mike Dixon hit a hat-trick for Goytre while Mark Jones, Ricky Morgan and Lee Harvey also netted. Jason Stokes and Andrew Burgess were on target for Pontypool.

Tranch beat Llanarth 2-1 despite having Robert Tovey sent off. Shane Thomas and David Thomas scored for Tranch while Steve Morgan netted for Llanarth.

Gilwern and District continued their good form with a 5-2 win over Mardy. Matthew Williams was the hero with a hat-trick while Adam Carrington and Chris Davies also netted. Both Mardy's goals came from James Copeland. Gilwern MoM: James Prosser; Mardy MoM: Stuart Smith.

Two first half strikes were enough for Blaenavon Blues to beat Cwmffrwdoer 2-1. Kyle Tovery scored the home side's consolation goal.

Clydach Wasps edged out Panteg 3-2 with goals from Peter Smith, Simon Tippings and Nick Brown. Panteg's goals were scored by Chris Massey and Gary Stirling.

In Division Two, Prescoed continue to lead the way at the half-way stage of the season after beating PILCS 4-1 with man of the match Grant Watkins hitting a hat-trick. Michael Smith also scored for the leaders while Alex Lewis scored for PILCS. PILCS MoM: Clinton Rogers.

Second-placed Race were held to a 1-1 draw by the ever-improving Pandy. Pandy took the lead through Mark Hughes and Mark Williams equalised for Race. Race MoM: Paul Hayward; Pandy MoM: Leyton Davies.

Gilwern B cruised to a 6-1 win at Llanarth B with Robby Warner hitting four goals. Sion Thomas and Kieron Shevlin got the others while Paul Detheridge scored Llanarth B's consolation. Gilwern B MoM: Robby Warner.

New Inn stay in fourth place after a 5-0 victory over Fairfield United.

Scorers were Simon Duggan, Allun Pugh, Ian Evans, Jeff Tozer and Scott Connell. New Inn MoM: Aaron Thomas; Fairfield MoM: Glenn Rees.

Crickhowell B thrashed Mardy B 7-1 with goals from Jonny Webb (2), Alex Radetta, Steve Hendrich, John Jones, Thomas Canning and Owen Jones.

Crickhowell B MoM: Owen Jones; Mardy B MoM: Andrew Worten.

Abergavenny Thurs-days visited Sebastopol and came away with a 6-2 victory. Kieron James scored a hat-trick while David Mason (2) and Ross Fury scored the others. Michael Gallivan scored both Sebastopol's goals.
