Community centre gets cash for new facilities

A PONTYPOOL community centre was given a cash boost for new facilities.

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust gave Garndiffaith's Victoria Village and District Welfare Hall a £6,407 grant.

The hall is embarking on a major £20,000 refurbishment. The hall hosts a community activities for all ages.

They submitted various grant applications for money to provide disabled access to the hall and toilet facilities for the disabled.

The CRT trustee Wayne Thomas said: "The trust is a fervent supporter of village halls such as this one, which plays an important role in the community. We are delighted to contribute to the cost of the refurbishment."

Derek Hynam from the committee which runs to the hall said: "We plan to extend the range of activities on offer to include life-long learning courses and ICT."
