Caldicot squeezed into the final of the Gwent senior cup by the narrowest of margins last Wednesday when they defeated Goytre 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shoot out after extra time ended 2-2.
The result was harsh on Goytre who had led until the last minute of extra time when Caldicot forced a fortunate equaliser.
Kel Stevens gave the home side the lead early in the second half.
Goytre levelled soon after Kevin Wallace prodded the ball into the net.
That's how the scores stayed until the second period of extra time when Goytre took the lead through Darren Haines.
Goytre looked to have won it but a last gasp Gareth Cullimore effort took the game to penalties.
"I'm very disappointed, " said Goytre chairman Paul Greenhalgh. "But the performance was excellent."
Caldicot manager Rob Painter admitted it was far from his side's best performance. "We didn't play well, but got away with it," he said.
Goytre followed the disappointment of Wednesday's semi-final defeat with a valuable 2-1 win in a Welsh League Division Three relegation six-pointer at Llantwit Fadre on Saturday.
Steve Collett and Dean Taylor scored as the village side moved away from the division's drop zone.
Goytre travel to Cwmamman on Wednesday before meeting Blaenrhondda at Plough Road on Saturday.
