Art is tribute to beloved Emma

GWENT schoolgirl Emma George, who lost her battle with cancer in January, has been honoured in a mural celebrating the history of her village.

The popular Garnd- iffaith girl died aged ten, after a long battle which touched the hearts of readers. Now her artwork will be enjoyed by generations to come.

Her paintings are included in a community art project in Garndiffaith. The work, which is in the village's Millennium Hall, was unveiled by Emma's twin brother Tom yesterday.

Her mother Kim George, of Channel View, said she was delighted Emma's work was included. She said: "I was really happy, I couldn't believe it when they asked.

"Knowing Emma, she would have said: 'I'm famous at last!' - she would have loved it. "It's a lovely feeling to know her work will be enjoyed for many generations to come - long after we've gone. She touched everybody's lives, and her art meant so much to her." Pupils from Abersychan Comprehensive and residents of all ages from across Garndiffaith have contributed to the work.

The project is being co-ordinated by the Garnsychan Partnership, a local community group.

Spokesman Jacqui Edwards said: "Emma's work has been included as a tribute."
