Weary Panteg fail to spark

A TIRED Panteg side went down 2-0 to Cwmbran Celtic last Tuesday as they returned to league action just three days after a gruelling 120-minute Gwent Amateur Cup semi-final victory over Undy.

Panteg conceded a penalty after only ten minutes and were two down on the stroke of half time and manager Paul Thomas admitted fatigue played a factor. "We could have done with more rest," he said.

Fortunately Panteg were not in action on Saturday so had a week to recuperate ahead of the visit of Abercarn. After that clash, Panteg fulfill their league programme with home games against Newport Corinthians and Aberbargoed Buds before their final meeting with Underwood.

Meanwhile Panteg's second team have moved away from the Gwent County Division One drop zone in recent weeks and defeat to Llanarth on Monday night represented their first reverse in five matches.

However, at the weekend Panteg thrashed Clydach Wasps 4-0. More Gwent Central League action inside.
