Usk slip in race for second spot

Some important games were played during the mid-week fixtures. In Division One Usk Town needed to keep up their winning ways away to Panteg to take the Division One runners-up spot from Govilon but Panteg beat Usk Town 1-0 with a goal scored in the first half by Dave Calhoun. Panteg hold eleventh position.

On Saturday Usk Town won 5-2 away at Pontypool Town. Usk Town led 3-1 at half time. Scorers for Usk Town were Lee Watkins (3) and Steve Wade (2). Scorers for Pontypool Town were Sean Kerns and Chris Oliver. Pontypool Town are fourteenth.

Tranch Utd had a 0-0 home draw with Lower New Inn in mid-week and on Saturday Tranch won 3-2 away at Mardy. Scorers for Tranch were Steve Whitcombe, Shaun Williams and Lloyd Whitlock. Jonathan Davies scored both the Mardy goals. Tranch Utd are sixth position and Mardy are eighth.

Clydach Wasps won 3-1 away in mid-week to Blaenavon Blues. The Blues hold ninth position.

On Saturday Panteg beat the Wasps 4-0. Scorers for Panteg were Tom Daley (2), Gary Stirling and Nick Gwillam. Clydach Wasps hold seventh in Division One and Panteg eleventh.

Gilwern & Dist. beat Goytre 3-0, with all the Gilwern goals coming from Jayde Kelly. Gilwern & Dist. hold fourth and Goytre are in thirteenth.

Llanarth and Crickhowell drew their match on Saturday 1-1. David Dwyer scored for Llanarth and Owen Jones levelled. Crickhowell has already won the league and have completed all their games. Llanarth are tenth with two games left.

Lower New Inn completed their seasons' fixtures by losing in mid-week to nine man Llanarth 6-0. Paul Rennie (2), Ali Maidment (2), Nevill Harris and Rob Westall scored. Lower New Inn finish thirteenth.

Race United lost 3-2 to Fairfield Utd. Scorers for Race Utd were Nathan Younie and Paul Hayward. Scorers for Fairfield Utd were Glenn Rees, Daley Whitcombe and Jason Gulliford. Prescoed are Division Two champions and Race Utd runners-up. Fairfield Utd are ninth.

Pontypool Town B and PILCS drew their Division Two derby match 2-2. PILCS led 1-0 at half time. Scorers for Pontypool B were Richard Wakeling and Stuart Price. Scorers for PILCS were Paul Taylor and John Lewis. Pontypool Town B are thirteenth and PILCS eighth.

On Monday Sebastopol won 2-1 away to Mardy B. Chris Phelps scored both of the Sebastopol goals. Andrew Worton scored for Mardy B, who are eleventh.

On Thursday Sebastopol beat Pontypool B 4-1 in the Free Press Cup and on Saturday beat New Inn 4-3 in the league. Scorers for Sebastopol were Aaron Mead, Rob Whittington, Craig Williams and Matthew James. Scorers for New Inn were Marc Coia (2) and Alun Pugh. New Inn finish fifth.

Aber Thursdays beat Pandy 3-2 at Pen-y-Pound Stadium. Scorers for Pandy were Michael Smith and Robert Beet. Scorers for Thursdays were Ross Fury, Gareth Stephnill and Robert Didcott. Aber Thursdays hold fifth and Pandy are third.

On Saturday Llanarth B lost 7-3 to Usk Town B at Usk Island. Scorers for Usk Town B were Stuart McCracken (2), Lee Morgan (2), Dan Price, Graham Davies and Rob Morris penalty. Scorers for Llanarth B were Paul Alexandra, Richard Dwyer and Alistair Maidment. Llanarth B finish up fourteenth, Usk Town B tenth.

On Thursday games took place in the first round, first leg of the Free Press Cup. Pandy lost 3-1 at home to Race United. Scorers for Race were Martin Bewick (2) and Chris Bartlett, for Pandy Rob Beet.

Crickhowell B and New Inn drew 1-1. Wayne Wright scored for New Inn, Allan Jones for Crickhowell B.

Mardy B beat Llanarth B 3-1 away with goals by Matthew Lynch (2) and Adrian Jones. Toby Preece scored for Llanarth B.

PILCS beat Usk Town B 3-2. PILCS scorers were Mark Wyatt, John Jenkins and Justin Edmunds. Usk Town B scorers were Rob Morris and George Ashworth.

The P&P Pest Control Open Cup quarter final Pandy v Goytre finished 1-1 and went to penalties, which Goytre won 5-4. Goytre will now play Usk Town in the semi-final at Clydach Wasps FC on Monday, 25 April.
