Champions Crick swamp Goytre

DIVISION One champions for 2004/2005 Crickhowell wound up their season with a 6-1 away win at Goytre. The club has spent over £3,000 in order to meet the criteria for promotion to the Gwent County League, which includes a new mains water supply to their changing rooms.

Goal scorers for Crickhowell at Goytre were Owen Jones (2), Matthew Stevens (2), who finishes up with a season's goal scoring tally of 39, Craig Thomas and Owain Jones. The Goytre goal was scored by Mark Jones MOM Goytre: Phil Jane. MOM Crickhowell: Owen Jones. Goytre, with two games left to play, are in 13th position.

On Saturday Clydach Wasps drew their local derby match with Gilwern & District 1-1. Damian Evans put Clydach into a 1-0 lead, one minute into the second half Graham Rees put Gilwern level with a goal scored in the 65 minute. MOM Clydach Wasps: Damian Evans. MOM Gilwern & Dist: Steve Williams. Clydach Wasps are in seventh position and Gilwern & Dist are in fifth position.

On Wednesday Clydach Wasps ran out 1-0 winners over Goytre in the A Jones & Co (Usk) Ltd Langdon Cup semi-final. The sides were level 0-0 at the end of the normal 90 minutes. The Clydach winner was scored in the very last minute of the second period of extra time, through Nicky Brown, who scored with an simple tap in from an Allan Elmore cross to the far post. The Wasps will play Blaenavon Blues in the final (date to be arranged).

On Tuesday evening Blaenavon Blues beat Mardy in the Langdon Cup semi-final 3-2. The Blues established a 3-0 half time led, opening their goal scoring account with a goal by Jeff Sterry from a low shot. Dean Yemm made it 2-0 in the 28 minute with a goal scored from the edge of the box and before half time March Browning made it 3-0 when he scored from a Jeff Sterry pass. Mardy pulled two goals back in the second half through Phil Melville and Rodney Webb.

Blaenavon Blues completed their league programme with a 7-1 home win on Saturday over Tranch United. Goal scorers for the Blues were a Ryan Keen hat-trick, Dean Yemm (2), Jeff Sterry and Allan Scammell. MOM MOM Blaenavon Blues: Allan Scammell. MOM Tranch Utd: Chris Watkins. Ricky Ball scored a consolation goal for Tranch. Blaenavon Blues are in eighth position.

Cwmffrwdoer beat Govilon 2-1 in mid week. This result reduced Govilon's chances of the runners-up spot. At present Govilon have completed all their games and have 47 points. Third place team Usk Town is two points behind Govilon with 45 points but Usk Town still have a game to play at home on the Island against Goytre on Saturday. Usk Town needs maximum points from this one to win the runners-up spot over Govilon. Cwmffrwdoer led Govilon 2-0 at half time through two goals by prolific goal scorer Ross Peake. His first goal came in the seventh minute and his second, in the 20th minute, came from a header two feet off the ground. Jamie Wilkins pulled a goal back for Govilon in the 88 minute. On Saturday Cwmffrw- doer drew with Panteg 2-2. Cwmffrwdoer led 2-0 at half time with goals by Kyle Palfrey and Kyle Tovey. In the second half Sam Gifford scored for Panteg and Tom Daley levelled the score in the 55 minute.

Tranch United finished the season in sixth position after their mid-week 4-1 home derby win over Pontypool Town.

Llanarth had a 3-2 away win at Panteg.

Both semi-finals took place in the A Jones & Co (Usk) Ltd Benevolent Cup. Crickhowell B beat Race Utd 2-1.

In the other semi-final Gilwern & Dist B beat New Inn 2-1.

Crickhowell B will play Gilwern & Dist B in the final to be played at Clydach Wasps FC on Sunday, May 11 (kick off 3pm).

In the Free Press Cup Round One, Second Leg Pandy beat Race 3-2 but Race went through to the quarter finals 5-4 on aggregate. New Inn beat Crickhowell at home 3-2 and won the round 4-3 on aggregate. Mardy B beat Llanarth 5-2 and go through 8-3 on aggregate. PILCS beat Usk Town B 5-01. Sebastopol and Pontypool B drew 2-2. The Sebastopol goal scorers were Michael Gallivan and Craig Williams. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town B were Stuart Price and Wayne Nash.

Sebastopol went through 7-5 on aggregate. Two quarter final games were played on Saturday in the Free Press Cup. PILCS beat Mardy B 6-1.

Fairfield Utd beat Sebastopol away 4-2 on penalties. PILCS play Fairfield Utd in the semi-final on Saturday, April 30. The quarter-final Free Press matches, Race Utd v New Inn and Prescoed v Aber Thursdays were postponed and will be played on Monday, April 25.
