New activity centre is on TRAC

TREVETHIN is home to a new £50,000 community venue as Torfaen Resource and Activity Centre (TRAC) 2 opens.

Rugby legend and former British Lion Rugby Player Ray Prosser will be on hand on Friday to launch the venture, after he and his colleagues are already regulars at the top table at the existing drop in centre in Pontypool.

The launch of TRAC 2 social action centre at Trevethin shops will enable people from the area to have a place to meet, drink tea and coffee, chat and browse the internet.

They can also use TRAC2 to find out about any services they may require, solutions to a problem could be right on the doorstep.

The project is funded under the Communities First programme and aided by Torfaen Voluntary Alliance and Torfaen council.

The existing TRAC and the dedication and hard work of its volunteers inspired the new venue and long-standing volunteer Mel Jones will make the first cup of tea at the Trevethin branch.

The opening will be marked by music exhibitions and performances and volunteers are ready to welcome local people coming to see what's on offer.

TRAC2 organiser Catherine Howells is busy preparing for the launch and recruiting people to volunteer at the centre.

With an emphasis on a warm welcome Catherine will be offering and developing courses from the centre.

Credit Union is going to be on hand as usual on Tuesdays and other careers and volunteering agencies will use the advice room.

There will also be opportunities for other groups to use the building, out of regular opening hours.

TRAC2 will be open 9.30am-12.30pm every weekday except Tuesday.
