Usk win battle for second spot

In the final league game of the season Usk Town beat Goytre 3-1 on the Island to clinch the Division One runners up spot. Usk Town goal scorers were Dan Bevan, Steve Wade and Christian Phillips.

The Goytre goal was scored by Lee Harvey. Goytre finished the season in thirteenth position.

Both semi-finals were played in the Free Press Cup. Prescoed beat New Inn away 2-1. Goal scorers for Prescoed were Grant Watkins (taking his season's goal scoring tally to 36) and Eddie Kent. The goal for New Inn was scored by Nicky Tudball. Jeff Tozer missed a penalty for New Inn.

Fairfield Utd beat PILCS 3-2 away. In the second half Michael Harper put Fairfield 2-0 up, Paul Taylor pulled it back to 2-1, then substitute John Jenkins put Fairfield Utd 3-1 up with a spectacular goal when he volleyed the 'keeper from 30 yards. Finally James Ronan scored for PILCS.

On Sunday the final of the A Jones & Co (Usk) Ltd Benevolent Cup took place at Clydach Wasps between Crickhowell B and Gilwern & District B. Crickhowell B won the match 5-4 after extra time. Goal scorers for Crickhowell B were Alun Jones (2), Ryland Warren, Dan Haymond and Chris Lusted. Goal scorers for Gilwern & Dist. B were Steve Woods (2), Jayde Kelly and Chris Rees.

At the after-match presentations Crickhowell FC was presented with the Division One Champions Cup. Matthew Stevens, Crickhowell A, was presented with an award for being the 2004/2005 Division One top goal scorer with 39 goals scored for the season. Chris Rees, Gilwern B, was awarded the Division Two runner-up Player of the Year.

In mid-week both semi-finals were played in the P&P Pest Control Open Cup. Goytre beat Usk Town 2-0. Goytre led 1-0 at half time with a goal by Phil Jayne in the 25 minute. Chris Perry played the ball into the Usk Town area, it was headed on by Mike Dixon for Phil Jayne to score. In the second half Mike Dixon scored Goytre's second goal from a free kick.

In the other semi-final New Inn beat Clydach Wasps 2-1. The Wasps were first to score with a goal by Damien Miles in the twentieth minute following a melee in the New Inn box. Nicky Brown squared the ball in for Miles to slot it into the top corner from six yards.

The Wasps had a lot of goal scoring chances in the first half but could not finish. New Inn pulled level at 1-1 in the 70 minute, following a defensive error by the Clydach 'keeper which let in Mark Jackson to score.

The semi-final then went into extra time and New Inn's winner came in the twentieth minute of extra time via a Jeff Tozer penalty awarded to New Inn for a push in the box.
