Pentwyn win in first game

Pentwyn first eleven got their league campaign off to a winning start with a hard earned 21 run victory over Newport.

Pentwyn were put into bat on a slow low pitch, and no batsmen was ever in control. Despite all the top order recording double figures, some poor shot selection meant that Sam Saunders was the only person to pass twenty as he top scored with 25 in a total of 167 all out.

When Newport replied, Mike Daniels took two early wickets as the Newport batsmen fell behind the required run rate. Off spinner Dave Harris took control, with a spell of 3 for 27 and with Jon Price taking out the tail with figures of 3 for 13, the Newport team fell 21 runs short of their target on 146 All out

Pentwyn second eleven lost a nail biting clash at local rivals Pontnewynydd losing by one wicket with just three balls of the game left. Top performer was Carwyn Owen with 37 runs and 2 wickets for twenty runs.

Penwtyn's under-11 team comfortably won their first league game by 34 runs over a strong Machen team. Simon Williams took 3 wickets for just three runs, whilst Lewis Pheasant top scored with 17 not out.
