Perfect start to new season for Panteg

Panteg cricket club won their second match of the season on Saturday as they followed the previous week's defeat of Pontypridd with a seven-wicket victory over Tondu.

The Pontypool side put their opponents into bat and Tondu were restricted to just 180 in their 50 over innings thanks to a good bowling performance from Adam Harrison - who is on the books of County outfit Glamorgan - and John Glover. There were also significant contributions from Blain Harris and Gareth Meredith.

William Blay fresh from his top scoring performance for Wales the previous week opened the batting for Panteg and hit 84 before being bowled.

He was partnered by Adam Harrison, who also notched up a very creditable 55 not out, as Panteg cruised to victory.

"We've started really well this year," said Panteg Captain Ian bird. "Last year we struggled and only avoided relegation because the team that were supposed to go up didn't have the necessary ground requirements.

"Now we've played two and won two, we got maximum points against Pontypridd and got 19 points against Tondu.

"John Glover's only 15 and but he hit 30 in 10 overs which is a fantastic achievement.

"I'm really hopeful for this season. I'm not expecting us to win the league but I'm sure we will do better than last year," he added

Panteg will hope to make it three wins out of three when they face Sudbrook at home on Saturday.
