Racing to 100 years of success

On Saturday Race AFC celebrated another solid season for the club. The First XI consolidated their position in the Gwent County League Division Two, finishing a creditable seventh in their first season in that division.

The Second XI had a great season, finishing in the runners-up position in the Gwent Central League division two, missing out on the top spot by one agonising point.

In conjunction with the clubs traditional FA Cup day celebrations was the annual awards presentation.

Awards were presented to:

First Team Player of the Year: Mark Drinkwater

First Team Players' Player of the Year: David Goodchild

Second Team Player of the Year: Daniel Hern

Second Team Players' Player of the Year: Barry Reed

Clubman of the Year: Scott Jenkins

The club has set up a separate 'centenary year committee' for the forth coming season, made up of former players to oversee many forthcoming events as well as a number of friendlies. Its a great achievement for an amateur club like the Race to last 100 years.

Former players of Race AFC can get involved with the committee. Contact Gareth Francombe on 07970949232 or send an e-mail to Scott Jenkins at scott.jenkins2@tesco.net or visit the clubs newly established website desigend in conjunction with Reach for IT run by Torfaen CBC.
