At Ystalafera on Saturday Torfaen Tigers overcame a 10-0 deficit early on to record a 34-33 victory over Swansea valley miners in a seesaw battle. The victory was all the more sweet as Torfaen travelled without the majority of their squad who were either unavailable due to tour commitments or were injured.
Skipper Jason Hill returned to the side and along with second row Chris Williams inspired the Tigers to victory with strong performances. Other players to stand our were winger Damien Smith and full back Dale Nash.
Scorers for the Tigers was the impressive Matthew Francombe-Ross who crossed for four splendid efforts, Matt Entwhistle with two and winger Smith who rounded off a splendid passage of play between the Tigers back line of which Nolan Nicklin was to the fore once again. Entwhistle added three conversions.
Special mention must also go to Team Manager Bob Bendon who travelled as the only committee person and ensured the team were looked after on and off the field.
The Tigers entertain Aberavon Fighting Irish this Saturday at the Jungle and will be hoping that returning players such as Steve Mayley and Luke Bigham can help them overcome their bogey side. Kick off is at 2.30pm.
