Pentwyn lose form and two-year record

Pentwyn first XI put in a below par performance as they were defeated by seven wickets at home to Cwmbran, thus losing a two year ground record.

Penwtyn were put into bat by the visitors, but found runs hard to come by, Gavin White with 28 and JP Rosser 20 both got starts but were unable to continue their recent good run.

Mike Harper with 42 added some vitality to the middle order, before James McClusky with 25 not out and Mike Daniels 12 not out added 32 runs in the last 4 overs to take Pentwyn to 168 for 8.

Pentwyn's opening bowling was misdirected as Cwmbran got off to a flying start, and despite three wickets falling in five balls John Prince with 56 not out carried them to victory with over 9 overs to spare and for the loss of just three wickets.

The collaboration between Pentwyn and Panteg in the under 17 development league proved fruitful as they marched to a nine wicket victory over Newbridge.

Dan Court with 4 for 17 ensured the visitors scored just 63 all out, and skipper Sam Saunders and Mike Harper made short shrift of the target which was reached in just 8 overs. Next week the joint eleven entertain Croesyceiliog at Panteg.
