Pentwyn find their feet in away win

Pentwyn first eleven returned to form with a convincing 83 run victory at Girlings on saturday.

Pentwyn chose to bat first but struggled on a difficult pitch as Girlings opening bowler Petere Murphy took 4 for 23 to reduce Pentwyn to 41 for 4. However, a fluent 32 from skipper Matt Smith and contributions from Jon Price 29 not out and first team debutant Carwyn Owen with 24 saw the visitors reach 187 all out in their 45 overs.

Accurate bowling from opening pair Jon Price 1 for 12 and Mike Daniels 1 for 20 soon had Girlings struggling at 29 for 2 from the first 15 overs.

Spinner Dave Harris tore out the middle order with 4 for 24 and a late burst of three wickets from Lee Courtenay ensured that Girlings fell short of their target as they reached 10 4 all out.

The second eleven totalled 241 for 6 in their game with Llantwit Major with Jon Rosser with 55 and Trevor Neatherway 40 leading the way. However, the visitors reached their target for the loss of 7 wickets with 5 balls to spare despite 3 for 48 from youngster Calum Paine.
