Summit to take on poverty

TORFAEN has joined the Make Poverty History campaign with its first summit - and voluntary and community groups are invited.

Torfaen Summit 1 aims to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals, pledged by the United Nations to eradicate poverty globally by 2015.

At the summit organisations will have the opportunity to develop existing projects and develop new ones.

The event at Cwmbran Stadium is part of the United Nations pledge to eradicate poverty globally by 2015.

There will be a range of information sessions showcasing the work already going on in Wales and afternoon workshops will help find ways for Torfaen to make its mark on the campaign.

Torfaen Voluntary Alliance hope that the many skills shared by volunteers will be able to benefit other voluntary organisations in the developing world.

The day promises to be fun, with lots of Fair Trade and ethical prizes, african drumming and stalls.

The fair trade forum will be there along with Support Somaliland, The Body Shop, Oxfam and local groups already working towards Making Poverty History.

The event is by booking only. For more information and a booking form phone 01495 756646 or visit our website www. torfaenvoluntaryalliance.org.uk

Tickets are free and will be on a first come first served basis, and all tickets will be entered into a draw for a Fair Trade prize.
